Rachael DeLand, aka DJ Balance, is an effortlessly cool and versatile vibe initiator, sonic weaver, and mixtape maiden.
With nearly two decades of experience, Balance has a natural inclination to apprehend the collective sentiment (ie. read the room). Beyond the club scene, she has made her mark at corporate events for renowned brands such as Adidas, Nike, and Salesforce. She’s been direct support for artists like TOKiMONSTA, Maribou State, CAKE, and Machinedrum at some of San Francisco’s most iconic venues, including 1015 Folsom, DNA Lounge, Masonic Center, and the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.
A native of Salt Lake City, UT, Balance's passion for dance music pushed her to Los Angeles at age 21, where she honed her craft at the Scratch DJ Academy under industry veterans. She later moved to San Francisco, establishing her first weekly residency at the city’s longest-running bass music night, Beat Church. This was followed by a residency with Sub Society, during which she co-created Diamond Crates — a collaboration with producer and longtime friend VNDMG. Together, they released bass music singles including “Moanbeams” and later “Sid and Nancy” for the Bicycle Day Compilation.
Balance has shifted her life tempo just North of San Francisco, in serene Windsor, CA. Where being immersed in all things Motherhood, throwing clay on the potters wheel, and continuing tell her story via mixtapes has been center stage this season. A welcomed hiatus contributing to the evolution that is shaping this next chapter in music.
Renewed and inspired by the stunning landscapes of Sonoma County, she’s eager to bring her unique sound to tasting rooms, vineyard events, pool parties, happy hours, and private gatherings. You can expect her sound outside of the club to feature a delightful mix of jazzy house, nu-disco, remixes, downtempo, 90s hip hop and classics. In the club? Expect heavy basslines, house, UK garage, and dubstep.
